The tracks are finally mixed and sounding great thanks to Phil, Danny and Matt for putting the time in for us, we got started at 7 last night before finishing at 2am then woke up at 8 again this morning to do the final bits and pieces, i'm going to have a listen again later this evening with fresh ears and see if anything else needs changing but the tracklisting is gonna be
1. Last Fly of Winter
2. Backstabber
3. Monster surf manual
4. Bad teeth
5. Fuck the left ear, it's all about the right ear now (demo)
We're also waiting for some merch to arrive hopefully in time for the Tapasia tour next week!
My previous blog about Creative blocks and Wire and Wool was partly correct but Wire and wool isn't on tonight i stupidly misread the date, the next one is on the 27th March so everyone should come along to Blocks tonight :-)

:-(
I know we've said for ages now that we should have the tracks mixed soon but it really should be done this weekend even if it means i stay up all weekend to get them finished, i'm heading to Phil and Dannys studio at 6 to crack on with it,
last night we went to see Metallica, it was my 7th or 8th time seeing them and if i'm completely honest i was a little disappointed, to begin with Machinehead' sound was awful but they did close with Davidian so that was a brucey bonus!
The problem with Metallica last night was that the atmosphere was so tame, everytime i've seen them before there was an electric atmosphere in the air which seemed to be missing last night which was surprising as this was Metallica' first time playing Nottingham, the new material is crap (i'll give it it's dues it's better than the St Anger stuff but i couldnt help but feel a little bored when they played the newer songs)
Sorry Metallica but you just weren't on form last night!
heres the setlist if you were wondering!!
01. That Was Just Your Life
02. The End Of The Line
03. The Four Horsemen
04. Leper Messiah
05. One
06. Broken, Beat And Scarred
07. The Judas Kiss
08. Sad But True
09. No Leaf Clover
10. All Nightmare Long
11. The Day That Never Comes
12. Master Of Puppets
13. Fight Fire With Fire
14. Nothing Else Matters
15. Enter Sandman
------------------------------------
16. Breadfan
17. Helpless
18. Seek And Destroy

it's almost that time of the month again
for Creative Blocks and Wire and Wool, somehow this month i've been roped into being involved in both, helping out with the running of Blocks and also playing at Wire and Wool, i don't quite know how i'm gonna be in two cities at the same time but i'm sure as hell going to try and find a way!
This Months Blocks features sets from the spectacular Origami Biro and Leni Ward with a few others to be confirmed still!
Wire and Wool features a set from Nottinghams Pilgrim Fathers (not long back from a European tour with Monster Magnet), alongside my good self and a whole host of others.
Metallica tomorrow night as Ash and I got last minute tickets today...........OOOOOOOhhhhhhh YEAH!!!

You can listen to it here Smalltown america

We were also given a mention on the Sweeping the Nation blog
"Nottingham based Alright The Captain are an instrumental outfit who switch-hit from Man...Or Astroman? on heat fuzzed out surf to twisted funk to stylised angular heaviness. Something for everyone who likes having their cerebral cortexes turned inside out while they wait"

Raped ears!
I've been slack blogwise this week with moving house and having no internet there yet but aside from all that this week's been so much fun, we started in Nottingham on monday arriving at the maze, i got the curry i'd got cooked for us heated up and fed an army of irish lads before soundchecks which was delicious, doors opened and there was a good crowd for a "school night"
Beyond this point...kicked the night off and were great as usual. We played a mixed bag of a set it was a bit ropey in parts with the first two songs feeling like we were running a race but after that it was all good and we all enjoyed ourselves!
Lafaro completely rocked the fuck out, i love them so much more as a 4 piece now and got trashed as they hammered through the set starting our own little personal pits on the door for tracks like "Mr Heskey" and "Tuppenny Nudger", by the time ASIWYFA came on i was well on form and they were absolutely amazing, playing a mix of tracks from "This is our machine..." and their forthcoming debut album as well as a new track called "Salamander" all of which are jawdropping and i cant wait for the album to hit the shops....its gonna be BIG!
Tuesday we played the Royal in Derby, we arrived at the venue to find that there were no posters up anywhere despite us leaving them quite a few, they also kindly told us there was an 11 o'clock curfew as it was a 14+ gig (nice of them to tell us beforehand), we played just after 8.30 and thankfully people had shown up early for the show, the sound was great and we played one of our best sets ever, all the bands were so much more on form for this gig and it was a great night, there was a minor kick off with the venue as we were leaving but nothing serious, we tried heading to Players but it was closed so instead we took over the Bell inn til we got booted out
Wednesday was a different story altogether tho, we picked up the gear from the Royal just after 4 and set of for Huddersfield, what should have taken an hour and a half or so took us 5 hours due to the coolant system in the car going tits up (or so we thought) i'd had the same thing happen with a mate a few weeks beforehand so i knew how to sort the problem temporarily! we had to keep stopping every 15 mins or so to fill the radiator up so we could get to the venue, we eventually arrived at 9:15pm got straight in and set up and started playing to 6 people that werent in the bands, lafaro and ASIWYFA battered through their sets and we headed back to our mate Thoms were we sat killing zombies all night and fell asleep watching Host.
We got up in the afternoon and filled the car radiator again before setting off and thats when i noticed the leak from one of the pipes so we were losing all the water, had to get the bastard to a garage where we got it sorted for £40 and heading back to Derby for a quick shower then on to Leicester to the ASIWYFA/Maybeshewill gig which was ace, Maybeshewill were trying out some new tracks from their upcoming album and they sound really good especially a track called "how to have sex with a ghost", they seem to be going in a bit of a heavier direction with these new tracks and will start recording next week, so thats another album to look forward to at some point this year!
Ash is playin with The Health and Safety executive tonight along with our mate Al's band XTag at Bar One, Derby! Come along!

Always make sure you have petrol!
something we've learned since starting the captain is that if anything can go wrong for us it usually does so why would today be any exception, we should have been in somercoates to play at 2 o'clock , instead I got picked up by one of the guys organising the festival to head over to somercoates after picking up Todds bass for him, we were on the A52 on the way to Derby when the car ran out of petrol, i was pretty hungover and battered to begin with without having to go for a half mile walk in search of a service station.....no joy!
sat with the car again for an hour and a half and not one single bastard stopped! Eventually a police car showed up and i took my first ride in the back of a cop car to the nearest services to get some petrol, by the time we were up and running again there was no point going to Somercoates so we headed around to meet Ash and Todd by the QMC and head back into Notts!
Loads of fun!
Happy Valentines btw!

Could be fun! Could be Shit!
First gig of the year today at the Black horse Pow Wow in Somercoates??? i'm clueless as to what it's all about as Todd sorted this show! I do however know that we are drummerless as Will's working til 3 and we play at 2, we're gonna stick Ash behind the Kit (he's a wicked drummer too so consider that a bit of trivial captain information) and just have a jam as a 3 piece as it's too late to pull out now, could be fun, could be shit! keep ya posted!
My heads melted after Valentines for the Dysfunctional last night in the Red Rooms, but it was a great night, it was all about JC Decaux's set tho, they were fucking brilliant! I'm too hungover at the mo to even write any sort of review apart from that there were wrestling moves, hat blindness, loud guitars and a shitload of wicked tunes! Roll on the next JC gig!

Saurus promotions
Nottingham's newest promoters "Saurus" had their launch last night and what a launch it was, the I'm not from London lads and I headed to the Chameleon for 9pm and there was already a great crowd gathered, they had dinosaur pinatas hanging up while Joel (the man behind the night) ran around with a dinosaur tail!
Holy State (a band i'd heard lots about but hadn't actually got round to listening to yet for some strange reason) ended up going on first which was a bit annoying as we missed the first 2 songs but they had a really raw angular sound, reminding me at times like the Jesus lizard meets fugazi and even a bit of old school Nirvana, i'll be getting a copy of the EP soon as i can for sure, check em out www.myspace.com/holystate
With the Change to the running order up next were Derby's These waves they were leaps and bounds better than the last time i saw them, everything was alot tighter and there were alot more onstage antics, the sound was really good in the Chameleon actually apart from Singer Josh's mic cutting out every now and again in parts. They remind me so much of a heavier This town needs guns which isn't a bad thing at all and should make for a good gig @ the Vic inn on march 7th!
The reason we were all out tonight tho was for Brontide, made up of Tim Hancock on guitar, Will Bowerman on drums and Nathan Fairweather these guys were always gonna be good, formed as a side project from their previous bands (I was a cub scout, Pictures and The Petty thief) they create intricate tapping melodies on the guitar and bass and make great use of the loop pedals, they've managed to capture a mix between battles and russian circles (two of my favourite bands) which works really well for them, opening with "MFBT" the gig got off to a great start and didn't dip once, only complaint i had was that it just wasn't long enough and i was left wanting more,i'll be checking these guys out again soon for sure!
Good first night Saurus, see ya at the next one!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
knackered, gonna keep this short and sweet
LED @ rescue rooms = Wicked night
Actionforce had to pull out cos of the snow unfortunately, (their driver was snowed in) so there was a replacement band which we missed :-(
Beck Goldsmith and her band (featuring half of LED) were excellent, in particular a track called "The Watchers" stuck out for me, check her out www.myspace.com/beckgoldsmith
Red shoe diaries were really good at the style of music they play (rockabilly indie style stuff) but i personally wasn't the biggest fan, the crowd really enjoyed it though and there were a few people having a good boogie :-)
Love ends disaster were ace, catchy post punk/indie with bass heavy hooks, they plowed through their set and looked like they were having fun being back on stage again for the first time in 2009,they were joined by Gemma from O lovely lie on vocals for the opening track which was brilliant, the set went on and a cuddly toy appeared on stage only to be kicked out into the crowd again after a while, Jon's guitar parts were awesome and the set seemed to fly by before i trundled off home in the cold!

It's snowing.......again!
This a pretty pointless blog really but fuck it, for the first time in 4 years since i moved to Nottingham we've been hit with a load of snow overnight that has actually settled! Fun times watching England go to shit cos they can't cope with a few inches of snow, all the buses, trains and buses have been stopped for the time being...Comedy gold, although i live 10 mins from work so no excuses for me :-(
anyways this is tonight.........

Come along if you can brave the snow :-)

ooooohhhhhh exciting times ahead
Yesterday the I'm not from london lads and I went for a little meeting with Hannah from SEVEN about a new clubnight we're gonna launch in the next few months, we have some really good ideas and we're gonna try and do something a bit different from what's already going on in Notts at the moment, it's all still in the planning stages and we're sorting out the launch night as we speak so i'll post more details as soon as we have more ourselves.
In Captain news, Ash and I put down some more guitar parts last night and we have two songs almost finished now, it seems like it's taking forever as we've been taking our time with these recordings and don't want to do anything with them until we're happy with them, we have another few sessions booked for the next 2 weeks so we should (all being well) have everything done by Valentines day :-)
Todds also been busy doing some more design work and we have some trendy captain Badgers ready to go on some Tshirts for ya which should be ready soon....would ya buy one of these?

Tonight i'm gonna chill and catch up on some much needed sleep then tomorrow night i'm gonna go see Love Ends Disaster! in the Rescue rooms for their first gig of 09, should be fun!

in love with Loggerheads
Wire and wool last night was amazing, first of it was in the Loggerheads, a pub/venue i've heard lots about but never knew where it was so Raj,Joycey and i decided to get a taxi down there, as we left the flat two guys in their late 30's asked us if we knew where there was any live music happening cos we'd our guitars with us, so we told em to join us for the evening as they'd never been before either, we arrived at the venue, at first we thought we were in the wrong place as it didn't look like there was any music happening anywhere, but after a quick investigation we realised we were in the best pub ever, its a massive playground to get drunk in with 2 main bar sections, a main venue section, a network of caves below the pub and massive outdoor area, the place was packed and there were people playing acoustic sessions in various places all round with wicked visuals dotted all over as well.
Raj and I played a few tunes together in one of the smaller caves at 10pm to an intimate little crowd, it was cold but alot of fun, as we finished up we went for another little wander round only to find some guys performing circus tricks like slicing watermelons between a guys balls with a machete and smashing concrete blocks on his chest as he lay on a bed of glass, after that we proceeded to chat away and get boozin while we watched some wicked acts, we saw the Amber Herd down in the main cave which was awesome and the cave was packed, it was a really nice setting with low lights and lamps and heaters, after them we went upstairs to the main room to see Apparatus of sleep play a stripped back set without the laptops which wasn't quite so acoustic but was excellent and involved oranges being thrown at the guitar to create walls of noise at the end .....by themselves not the crowd :-)
Another wander round and i found myself playing along in a big blues jam before we headed downstairs to the main cave again to see what was going on, we caught the guy that runs the open mics at the golden fleeces set which was really cool then Raj and I had a jam with our mate Matt from Par excellence into the wee hours of the night playing some instrumental acoustic stuff while people blazed up and waited to be booted out!

It was a really good night and i'll defintely be getting involved again, Raj and I have also decided we're gonna start doing more acoustic stuff together and will probably play the golden fleece open mic on monday!
Big up to Will and Jez for putting on another great night!
I'll get some photos and videos posted up as soon as i get em.
