The last Blog of 08

2008 has literally flown by and we've had a great year despite some ups and downs with drummers early on in the year but everything got sorted and we've kept ourselves as busy as possible, spending countless hours on the M1 and various venues all over the UK, we played just alot of gigs this year ...without the help off a booking agent :-) ...with some great bands like Holy fuck, And so i watch you from afar, Amusement parks on fire, Maybeshewill, Last days of Lorca, Monsters build mean robots, Let our enemies beware, Buenos Aires, Fists, Lo-Ego and so many many more that would just take too long to mention them all but you'll find em all in our friends on myspace.....CHECK EM OUT!

Some of my highlights were the MBMR tour at the end of summer, our show in the pit and pendulum for the Hockley Hustle, everytime we played Bar 1:22 in Huddersfield and the Holy fuck,ASIWYFA and maybeshewill shows!

We've met and kept in touch with alot of really cool people along the way and really do appreciate all the feedback, support, gigs, beds, floors and booze and good times that you've given us throughout the year and look forward to doin it all again in 09!

We're down to the mixing stages of the new tracks which we should be releasing early in the new year and then touring the fuck out of it for another years mayhem, we've just finished booking our first tour of 09 with our irish mates Tapasia which sees us play a string of UK dates and 3 irish dates, we'll be joined by Monsters build mean robots for the Irish dates too so fun times ahead :-)

One final reminder about tonights NYE party in Brownes! Come along and ring in the New year with us..we have a few special surprises up our sleeves so it should be a fun night!

Happy New Year!

Love,

Marty, Ash, Todd & Will

Happy Christmas!!!!!!!!

So it's Christmas again already and it's time to fatten up and get drunk with family and friends which leads nicely to the point of this blog other than to wish you all a Happy Holidays!

We'd like to thank everyone who helped us out this year in anyway, all the great promoters and venues who put us on and got us involved in some wicked events, all the great bands we've played and made friends with and everyone who came along to any of our shows and put us up for the night, we've had a blast in 2008 and will be celebrating hard on NYE with Leftlion and Spectrum at Brownes in Nottingham (tickets are going fast btw) if anyone wants to come to our last show of whats been a great year!

We're taking bookings for 2009 now and have some awesome shows lined up already so if you want us to come play your town/city/garage/house party or whatever just drop us as line or pester your local promoters to put us on :-)

in the meantime Eat,drink and have a Merry Christmas!

Computer says No!

If anyones in Notts on saturday pop in to the Above gallery to see Todd taking part in this live illustration day while you browse the gallery for gifts for xmas...two birds one stone and all that jazz :-)

Bored as sin.......but sinning ain't boring is it?

sat in work counting down the hours to freedom listening to Dillinger escape plans plagurism E.P, it's prooving to be a long week with no pennies going spare in my pockets and still no xmas presents bought i guess it'll be a rush job 2 days before Xmas this year.

I've been working with Paul from Lo-ego on a few riffs for a little project we're gonna work on in the new year to keep as busy as humanly possible, it's sounding very ambient and stoner at the mo and we've been playing around with some vocal and loop ideas so it'll be interesting to see what we do and if we actually remember anything we do :-)

Check out Brian Romero's work, found out about him randomly and really like his work!

More captain news: Wednesday night Ash and I head into the Studio to put down our guitars on the tracks we've been working on so hopefully we'll get alot down and get cracking on mixing if we find the time over Christmas.....fingers crossed!

anyways.............coffee time!!!!

keep ya posted,

Captains roasting by an open fire.....Kinda!

Last night was wicked, we set off from notts and got really battered on the journey listening to random tunes if anyone who doesn't know about the Onion it's the coolest little venue in Peterborough, it's run by local volunteers and they only sell organic, local and fair-trade goods, there is a wicked community vibe and everybody gets really involved with everything thats going on be it art, music or community events.

It was all decked out with tinsell and crackers and projections of an open fire playing behind the bands and there was a nice crowd out for the party, we played a fun set and managed to get "Last fly of winter" right this time after royally fucking it up the last time we played Peterborough, like twats tho we forgot to bring any CD's the night people actually wanted some :-(

Afterwards we had a chat with some of the people we'd met last time and we met some wicked girls who invited us to play some parties in the New year and became more and more intrigued by the "Naughty cupboard", definitely sounds like a plan!

Double handsome dragons closed the night and were on top form as usual, its a shame they can't join us in march for the Tapasia tour :-( but there are plans being made for summer so watch this space!)

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us last night, we had a great night!

We go into hibernation from next week with everyone fucking back off to their respective homelands to fatten up and sleep but before then we're gonna finish recording and work on some new songs(hopefully in time for NYE to ring in what's hopefully gonna be a productive and busy 2009)

* Join an acoustic lineup as headliners!

* Play like you wanna die and make alot of noise and improv!

Cheers to the few people that actually stuck around tho for their own private captain show :-)

Tonight should be a more suitable lineup and wrecking session in Peterborough with the lads in Double handsome dragons and Frisco Farr!

Free entry so no excuses :-)

This is our last gig before NYE!

Mad bastards and Zach Hill!

Last night Ash, Will and I went to the Social to see the legendary Zach Hill's solo show, we arrived there just in time to catch the first band Shapes from Birmingham and man they were wicked, turns out Ash knows the drummer from Birmingham and we're gonna try sort some shows together next year, we headed out for a smoke before Shield your eyes started and thats when things got weird, we were sat in the beer garden when some dude in his late 30's/early 40's approached us asking us where we were from so we just said Notts to keep it short and sweet......but oh no, he pulled up a seat and sat down and so the conversation turned...

He asked ash where he was from and he said Birmingham which then led to the freak introducing himself as Richard and how he'd been "banging some bird" there and people had been trying to admit him cos he's mental and has an issue with cleanliness, he told us he was a hermit and that all the scars over his face were from bottles and glasses and even had his balls slashed up and started asking us if we believed him or not and if we wanted to see to which we were just shocked at how random he was and insisted that he didn't need to show us.

Then he started going on about shagging over 150 prostitutes and how he'd been in over 100 fights and lost 2, and how he had to have his flat spotlessly clean all the time, then even after being told ash was from Brum he kept insisting that he sounded like he was from Greece or the Algarve...WHAT A JOKE!

We pretty much sat just shaking our heads not exactly knowing what to say for the duration of his rant when he pulls out his phone telling us he can get 20 lads down to the pub now if he thought he was in danger but he didn't feel in danger with us 3 cos he doesn't feel pain and wanted to prove it by asking the 3 of us to punch him as hard as possible in the face, we didn't obviously but he kept insisting and asking us so instead we made our excuses and went back inside.....RANDOM FUCKER!

Back in the Social without getting in a scrap and Shield your eyes were just about to start their set, which was really good noisy rockin fun, glad i'd brought my earplugs tho as they had some brutally noisy parts :-)

then it was time for Zach Hill (Hella/Team sleep), the man is a pure machine as he battered the shit out of his drumkit for the Necromancer, seriously impressive, impressive stuff, don't really know what else to say other than......WOW!

anyways tonight we play the Maze for Doledrum promotions, we might throw in a bit of an improv in our set tonight for a change as it's been a while!

we'll be on at about 10.15 so come say hello :-)

Leicester

Yesterday was Todds Birthday and WNC so we set off early from Nottingham for our journey to Leicester and decided to go the scenic route for a change rather than the M1 and it was all good despite being blinded all the way there by the low winter sun. We entertained ourselves with Dr Octagon banging and trying to take pictures of mouths on foreheads....
Photobucket
and passing through random little places like Quorn and Bunny before arriving with plenty of time to have a wee stroll round Leicester keepin our eyes open for some buckfast but to no avail!

We headed into Firebug and dropped our gear off, i was gutted i missed Two minute noodles cos they sounded great as we were moving gear around!
Just before we played Todd realised that his pedals weren't around cos between the 4 of us we hadnt lifted them from Derby...we're clever like that! so nayway we had to play the show without all todds weird wonderful noises but it was all good and we were happy with our set and looking forward to seeing the rest of the bands.

We were sat watching Buenos Aires when John (Maybeshewill) told us Tom Whalley from BBC midlands wanted to have a quick chat with us so we went of to do that randomly and then hunger struck, spent ages walking round trying to find somewhere until we settled on the Turkey Cafe, it was ace. the burgers were almost the size of your head.
Photobucket

All filled up and ready to get back to firebug for the rest of the night, quick stop at the offie and we proceeded to get very, very drunk on whiskey and rum in time for minnaars set which was brilliant, Maybeshewill were up next and they were awesome, the venue had filled up nicely and there was a great atmosphere, after their set the DJ put on some rage and we were messing around when Will just nutted me on the forehead mid headbang which came keen but i was still standing, bit of ice and a quick drink later jobs a good un!

Everything else from there's sketchy at best, chatting lots of shit with Buneos Aires, taxis and tenners, frozen windscreens with Alright the Captain

Photobucket

and crashing in 4 different places around maybeshewills living room during the course of the night! Today has involved being lazy after catching a few of the acts in Firebug for the last day of WNC and headin back to Notts, I'm just about to nip out to see Tubelord at the Chameleon....should be a good one!

in a bit,

WHITE NOISE CHRISTMAS - STARTS TONIGHT!

The White noise Christmas festival starts Tonight @ the Firebug in Leicester

Kyte have had to pull out so some more excellent bands have been added across the whole weekend. Jamie Says and Dobermann are now joint headliners of Sunday nights shenanigans.
Late additions to the bill are Leicester hardcore/punk fivesome All Idols Fall and Derby Post-Rock nonsense Beyond This Point Are Monsters on Saturday, Melton bluesey-tappy-prettyness Project Notion and Oadby Post-Hardcore-done-acousticly Speaking In Italics on Sunday, and noiseyness from Themselves on Friday.

We will be playing at about 4pm on saturday if anybody fancies getting down early, the lineup is lethal so don't miss out as its gonna be a busy weekend!

Cheers to everyone who came out to the shows with maybeshewill and Buenos Aires this week, it's been alot of fun so far!!!
